Nigel was initially uncomfortable with the glasses, but now uses them for longer hours. He only uses them for reading though. As you know, Nigel is not very vocal, and he has been unable to express how he feels about the glasses. He could only tell me that it helps but he can't express to me how the glasses are actually helping him.
It was only through a recent incident that I found out how much he is now dependent on the glasses.
He had left the glasses at home on the day of his English oral examination. He called me in a panic to say that he absolutely needed the glasses for the exam. Usually my son would not bother me when I'm at work, unless it is very important. So, he considered that the glasses were totally essential to him as he had to read some passages aloud for his exam. To his great relief, we managed to get the glasses to him in time for the exam.
I have noticed that he will automatically put on the glasses whenever he is doing his homework. There is also a slight improvement in his handwriting.
However, although he told me that it is much easier for him to read his storybooks now, he hasn't yet taken up reading for fun. I am waiting for the day when he will carry a storybook around with him wherever he goes, just like I used to do when I was a child. I remember that I would be so excited to find out what happens next in a story, and my mother would have to force me to put the book down. It may be easier for him to read the words now, but the words do not translate into a visual action picture in his head.
In the reverse, he has trouble expressing the picture in his head into spoken and written words. It's all up there, he can see it in his mind, but he can't find the words to express it. That's why he couldn't write you an email for your book.

Micheline has used her glasses for about 2 months. Initially, she found it difficult to wear for more than 1 hour. She used to complain daily headache, nausea, neck strain, especially after coming back from school. She would rubbed her eyes after reading. Watery eyes were also common. She had very poor handwriting, couldn't really spell and read.
Now, she is very comfortable with her glasses. She can wear her glasses for longer hours. She also puts on her glasses naturally when in school, doing homework, or doing just simple reading. Best of all, she does not complain of headache, nausea, neck strain at all!! Her eyes is less watery and therefore she hardly rubs it. It is such a relieve as mother to know that I have finally found the right way of dealing her headaches and neck strain.
There are times in the car when she can't take the lights coming through and she puts her glasses immediately. She breathes a sign of relieve with a smile after putting her glasses.
I can say for sure, Micheline has improved tremendously in her reading, spelling and writing. She can do reading and school work with greater focus and concentration too.
Doris, now you know why I ordered more of Irlen lenses. I want to make sure she has her glasses everywhere. The lenses have helped her with many things that she thought she could never do before. Thank you once again. It is a blessing to have you in Singapore to help children like my daughter.

Many Thanks for all your help to Jasper.
He has build up more confident. He does his school work himself. He has improved in his spellings and dictations for both English and Chinese, maintaining marks above 75%.
Jasper uses his glasses in school only. He is getting bette even though his CA1 results is not so encouraging.
I have told him, its alright as long as he has tried his very best. Both his Chinese and Science have passing grades.

With the lens and tuition, he also seems to have more confident and talk to us with proper sentence and more talkative. We even do words puzzle with him and he can do it faster than before. When we ask him how come now he can get words; he replied that now his brain can see all these words.
Jonathan emailed to Dr Ang to express:
I will tell you that my whole life has changed. I now do not see the 'halo' effects on my words; and I suddenly writing better. Coincidentally, my brain does not get a major overload and reading is much more fun as I understand what the storyline is and not just read it over and over again just to understand it. The environment around me is amazing. I see more bold colours.
Sebastian's father wrote to say:
�Sebastian feels comfortable wearing the lenses. He claims the words don't 'jump' anymore; no more unsightly 'ants' scrambling around his reading materials. We noticed a much improved handwriting although he has some way to go�.
Jessica's mother emailed to say:
She is a changed girl who suddenly able to enjoy learning and has grown more confident in her work as well as her games. She is a keen tennis player and has recently won the under-12 tennis tournament at our club! It certainly brings a ray of hope to us, parents who have tried everything possible.
From Kuala Lumpur, Chenez emailed Dr Ang to say:
We ( my sister and I) both think that since we've the glasses, the words have become much clearer. I had exams recently and am quite confident about some of them. When I read something now, I am able to remember what was on the page, and I only have to read it once. I was reading over my notes after studying the other week, and could remember everything. Thanks alot!
